Origins
Our team is grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, and Reciprocal Consulting Inc has been in operation since 2003.
We have been an award-winning firm, and leaders in culturally responsive evaluation, research, mentoring, project management and training.
We are committed to a strengths based approach with both communities and organizations, that encourages participation and collaboration in accordance with our Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles.
Vision
To contribute to the ongoing wellbeing, self-determination and nation-building in Indigenous communities through storytelling and leadership.
Mission
To witness the work in our communities and share those stories in a way that is relevant, responsive and contributes to systems change.
To work with and reciprocally mentor Indigenous peoples in program evaluation and decolonizing research.
To uphold Indigenous-led advocacy work that creates sustainable healthy communities (eg. Reconciliation, Anti-racism Education, Intersectional and equity focused approaches.)
The Five Rs - Our Guiding Principles
Respect is integral to the work that we do, as we value meaningful engagement with individuals and communities and view them as partners in our work.
We believe that our work is meaningful when it is relevant to the needs of evaluation users and decision-makers, and is adapted to the program, organization, community and context.
Reciprocity means we put communities first and that we work to the benefit of others, such as empowering individuals and communities through sharing skills, mentoring, and incorporating capacity development in our work where possible.
We approach our work with a sense of responsibility, where integrity, humility and ethical conduct is maintained, and knowledge is shared strategically and appropriately.
Relationships are the foundation to the work that we do, where we recognize that research, evaluation and strategic planning are human endeavors and we are working with human beings.
Our Guiding Principles are rooted in the work of Indigenous scholars, Verna J. Kirkness and Ray Barnhardt. They originally developed "The Four Rs – Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, and Responsibility" as a way to begin Indigenizing and decolonizing education. You can read more about their work here: The 4Rs

Reciprocal Consulting Inc. is an award winning research firm, and bringing others along is at the centre of our work in evaluation, research and storytelling.
